We rescued Luke and his brother, Duke, in March after their previous owner abandoned them at the Allegan County animal shelter. From Day 1, they were the most loveable little boys and everyone they met was their newest, bestest friend.Luke was always the quietest and most cuddly of the two. When we first brought them home, Luke walked around with his head and tail down, never barked, and ate very little. Four days after we rescued them, Luke had a large seizure. After recovering from the seizure, he was a totally different dog: head and tail up, barking at the neighbor’s dog, and eating like there was no tomorrow. For a month, he was just as happy and active as Duke. But the day after July 4th he became very sick and Wednesday evening he had one minor and two major seizures. Our vet initially suspected it may have been something he ate on July 4th and gave him some medication. Unfortunately, he worsened, refused all food, and had several violent seizures over the weekend. On Monday our vet determined he had a heart murmur, was dehydrated, had dull brain activity, and his prognosis for improvement was very low. We made the very difficult, and heartbreaking decision to allow him to cross the rainbow bridge and end his suffering.Luke, you were a very sweet little boy, and though you were only in our lives for four too-short months, you will be forever in our hearts.
