When approached a 125lb German Shepherd, most would be severely intimidated. Have no fear, he just wants kisses and hugs.Stemming from a ranch in Mayville, Michigan, Colton was one of many pups born to an extremely large litter. So large in fact that the breeder, after homing many pups, still had about eight remaining at ten weeks. One could imagine that eight pups at ten weeks equates to running a day care and feeding an army. At this point, the breeder just wanted to reduce the litter, so at $100 a pup, it was a great deal for a purebred. The pups followed Sean and his dad around the back side of the property on a cold fall day, the first of December in twenty twelve. Dad knew that the pup that followed the closest to Sean would make the perfect family addition, and would get along with his three sons just fine. As they walked and talked about the pups, one particular male took to Sean. Dad told Sean to pick one pup, and in turn, they chose each other.Dad and Sean returned home that afternoon to share the newest family addition. All were taken aback by his stature and demeanor. What a marvelous dog, but “he doesn’t like to hug, or be picked up”, mom commented. “Give him time”, dad replied, “and he’s gonna be too big to pick up”. Surely both were true.Colton brought nearly a decade of joy to his family. Wrestling with his pack of brothers, cuddling with his late sisters, Ayla (rat terrier), Sam (cat), and more recently, Sqwizgaar (cat). He would nestle the smaller pets such as lizards and a hedgehog as he recognized them to be as much as the family as he was. He love everyone, and everyone love Colton.Like his predecessors, he was always welcomed at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. He absolutely adored his grandparents and would perk his ears at the slightest mention of them.Colton Spartacus will be truely missed by all. He has left a huge paw print in our hearts.
