Sasha, the 7 year old German Shepherd, had a very important job. She was her dads best friend and his confidant to the end. Ron had cancer. He preferred to keep the extent of his health condition to himself. After Rons passing, it was days before the two of them were found. Rons mom wasnt in a position to care for a 110 lb dog. Larry, Tim’s good friend, took up the charge to find Sasha a home. It seemed everyone had a barrier to taking Sasha. We had been looking for a dog for quite a while. With a blended family of five children, a rabbit and 2 cats, we knew the dog had to be special to thrive in their environment. Lucky for us Larry worked with Tim and suggested we meet Sasha. There was something about her story that had us dismiss the fact Sasha was already a senior and had lived a quiet life in a single family home. The opposite of what we had in mind. The very moment we met, we knew we’d be bringing Sasha home. This gentle giant bounded to Tim, licking him in the face. In a flash, we were smitten. Lily, our 4-year old daughter, and Sasha, have developed an especially close relationship. Sasha was super intelligent and sweet. A gift that God had a hand in bringing into our family. All the people were in all the right places along the way to honor Rons memory and love for Sasha.Thats why the thought of losing Sasha brought us tears when talking about her being sick. Shortly after becoming part of the family, a vet visit revealed a pea size mammary tumor. In just a few months, the mass grew to the size of a softball. Happy Sasha went from bounding and playing with Lily, to having a fever and a hard time laying down. We were heartbroken to think the only thing we could do was make her last days her best. We were led to All About Animals Rescues Access to Care program. Not only was care affordable, but treatment was successful. Sasha was once again running around with Lily and the Forsythe family had our Sasha back.Shortly before Christmas in December of 2022 we realized Sasha was declining rapidly and the cancer was likely back. After the new year we knew she was ready. On Wed Feb 8th, 2023 Sasha laid down after her morning outing and simply slipped away.We are forever grateful for the blessing of this little piece of heaven and we know she is chasing deer, chewing blankets and making ammo with her favorite buddy and we will see them both again.
